Elimination of the “chatter” effect with the machining of flexible parts

Soraluce

Soraluce

DATA DRIVEN SOLUTIONS

Soraluce is a world leader company in milling, boring and turning technology, part of Danobat Group and located in Bergara (Guipuzcoa).

The machining of slender parts creates two principal challenges: the appearance of self-excited vibrations or "chatter", and the appearance of geometric deformations due because of residual stress. Using IoT, AI, Big Data and Cloud technologies, Soraluce has developed a cyber-physical device that uses portable electromagnetic actuators, as well as mechanical and thermal sensors, which has allowed them to solve these problems.

See how they did it!

Need:

To eliminate the chatter effect or vibration, which is very detrimental to the machining process. In response to the need to modify cutting conditions or tools, several solutions have been developed to eliminate self-excited vibrations which increase the cutting capacity of the equipment and also rise the efficiency of machining processes. In order to achieve intuitive operation, auto-tuning is developed, based on an algorithm that allows to know how the component will vibrate in order to apply an optimal damping force.
