DESCRIPTION

The quality laboratory of foundry sands and foundry allows: - Design new sand mixtures, varying the materials in terms of composition and proportions. - Determine the physical and mechanical characteristics of sand and/or binder mixtures. - Optimize the efficiency in the consumption of raw materials, reducing the environmental impact and economic savings. - Control of particle and gas emissions during the setting process - Casting by manufacturing prototype mixes - Evaluating the suitability and efficiency of different sand regeneration technologies

Design and evaluation of moulding and core making materials. Development of new formulations and materials

Preparation of 2 kg mixtures and manufacturing of samples with the appropriate format to test different physical and mechanical properties: permeability, resistance to compression, flexion, Reformulation of mixtures and compositions by testing.

Evaluation of the sand recyclability by wet regeneration

Equipment for the regeneration of sands using a small-scale wet process to evaluate the behavior of materials and/or formulations. Study the useful life and regeneration cycles and applicable use to different sands. The tests could be done in different conditions (room temperature, high temperatures, acidic means, basic means, surfactants,…)

Sieving of granular material (sands) for conditioning and preparation of new mixtures

Availability of a laboratory-scale and a semi-industrial scale sieving equipment to prepare and classify materials (new sand, sand return, regenerated…) in different particle sizes 0.020 – 30 mm and subsequently prepare mixtures.

Study of systems or technological solutions for sand regeneration
