Drilling of composite materials with one-shot tools

Zubiola

Zubiola

MÁQUINAS INTELIGENTES Y CONECTADAS

Zubiola is a cooperative founded in Azpeitia in 1966. After some years dedicated to the manufacture of machinery for the furniture industry, it focused on the manufacture of cutting tools for wood and derivatives. In 2007, Zubiola moved to Azkoitia and began to enter the automotive and aeronautical sectors through the manufacture of polycrystalline diamond tools. Today, these sectors represent two thirds of the company's business.

Need:

In the aeronautical sector, processes that were previously done manually are now being automated, which requires a precision increase of existing cutting tools. In addition, aircrafts are using increasingly lighter and more abrasive materials, such as titanium or carbon fiber, which requires more sophisticated tools. Due to these transformations, the drilling of carbon fiber reinforced polymers is causing complications in the aeronautical industry, which is facing challenges such as chip removal, temperature increase or lack of cutting edge strength.

Area of the company where the solution is focused:

Mechanization of materials for the aeronautical sector
