Korta is a family company founded 40 years ago and located in Zumaia (Guipuzcoa). Specialised in the manufacture of ball screws, the company has an important position in markets such as machine tools, energy, automotive and aeronautics.

During one of its first aeronautical projects, the company came across the need to certify the grinding process for 100% of the parts. While searching for different alternatives to chemical attack processes, Barkhausen's magnetic noise technology was found, allowing them to implement predictive maintenance techniques. This technolgy makes posible the correction and reduction of the number of defective parts.

The need arose to certify 100 percent the absence of grinding burns and hardness layer of the spindle. Specific sensors were developed to measure the Barhauser magnetic noise, related to the microstructure and hardness of the material. Once the parts are ground, they are taken to the BNA bench, developed for this project, to make a sweep of the entire spindle, measuring the magnetic noise. These signals can be used to detect hardness problems or burns on the spindle. The analysis of the data trend makes it possible to anticipate possible problems, reject defective parts and deliver 100 percent certified parts.
